Who I Am
I'm Jon (aka Romo), years old, living in San Diego. I'm a software engineering leader, problem solver, and lifelong tinkerer who enjoys building things, figuring out how they work, and occasionally making projects more complicated than they need to be.
Professionally, I lead software engineering teams, build technology solutions, and spend a lot of time turning complicated business problems into practical, scalable software. I'm particularly interested in emerging technologies, automation, and finding ways to make software work smarter. More on that on the career page.
Outside of work, I'm usually working on something. That might mean building a side project, experimenting with home automation, tinkering with my home network, or finding new ways to automate everyday life. I enjoy the intersection of technology and creativity, especially when an idea goes from a random thought to something real that people can actually use. And when I'm not at a keyboard, I'm probably out for a run.
How I Got Here
I graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2007. Before finishing up, I spent a co-op with Fannie Mae in Herndon, VA (just outside DC) from July 2006 to February 2007.
Right after college, in June 2007, I moved out to San Diego. That December I packed up again and moved to Cabo, where I lived until November 2008. Back in San Diego after Cabo, I resumed my software engineering career.
In March 2013 I completed Ironman Los Cabos, and I'm still an avid runner today.
I met my wife Jessica in June 2014 — we count July 2014 as our anniversary. In December 2024 we welcomed our daughter, Bonnie. From August 2025 to April 2026 we took on a full remodel of our house. Being a husband and dad has given me a whole new appreciation for time management, patience, and the fact that not everything can be solved by writing a script.
At the end of the day, I'm someone who enjoys learning, building, experimenting, and making things a little better than I found them. I'm rarely short on ideas, occasionally short on free time, and almost always working on something new.
